The Rebel's Temple

Positive: This apartment is in an excellent location. We were able easily to walk everywhere in the city that we wanted to go. The Acropolis is so close by (there's a great view of it from the main bedroom!) and we loved being able to walk straight up Nymph's Hill to enjoy the fantastic views (and spot wild tortoises!). There are several smallish supermarkets in the vicinity, which we used because we cooked most of our own meals in the apartment. The kitchen was decently equipped for this, with hob, oven, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, kettle and coffee pod machine (although no pods provided) and we appreciated the selection of food in the cupboard left by previous guests (oil, salt, pepper, etc). The 2 bedrooms worked well for us as a family of 4, and the spacious dining area was lovely. Complaints about the sitting room sofa are unfounded! It's perfectly comfortable for 3 people to sit on, and we thought it added to the stylish feel of the living area. It's a lovely light, airy room with multiple balconies. The roof terrace is shared with the other apartments in the building, but we rarely saw anyone else up there. It's a bit 'spartan' up there, but there are 2 seating areas so you're likely to be able to sit and enjoy a drink with the incredible Acropolis views all visitors to Athens want. The hosts were amazing at keeping in touch and checking that things were ok. We initially had trouble connecting to the WiFi but this was speedily sorted out with a WhatsApp message (NB just restart the router, that should work!). We also mentioned that the kitchen sink was missing a plug, and that one of the bedside lights wasn't working, and the following day a new light, 2 bulbs and a sink plug were delivered to us; excellent service! Negative: Previous reviews have mentioned the shower being difficult to use. My sons and I both managed to shower without getting a drop of water on the floor; however, my husband drenched the entire floor every time he used it. It's clearly user-error on some guests' part! Just stand with your back to the corner, and only point the shower towards you, it's not that tricky. Others have also mentioned the noise/traffic. This didn't bother us at all, we didn't find it intrusive. But you're in a very central apartment, it's never going to be completely silent. Bring earplugs if any night time noise worries you (we brought them, as we always do, but didn't feel the need to use them at all). The double glazing is good.
